Our favorite deals on TurboTax Premier this year are from Amazon, an authorized Intuit reseller. They have several versions on sale for up to 29% off that include eFile and your local State return, with no additional coupon codes required. The boxed versions, with the CD included in the box, will give you free shipping while the digital version will let you download your license immediately at order checkout. If you’re lucky, you’ll also avoid the State sales tax charges become Amazon only charges sales tax in a handful of states. The official factory store at Intuit.com lets you try TurboTax Premier or any of the other versions for free before you buy. Unlike traditional free trial versions of software where they give you 30 or 60 days for free, the TurboTax trials let you take as much time as you need. Just start your return and follow the steps to enter your 1099 and W2 forms. Then before you complete your return, you will have an option to purchase the Federal and State packages that best suit your tax needs. The Online versions also let you save your progress at any point in the process and then return when you left off at any computer. If by chance your taxes this year are very simple or if your family qualifies as low-income, then you might qualify for one of the available free versions that are now offered by TurboTax.

Probably not the first store that you think of for special offers or discounts on your tax software, but actually the big-box warehouse stores have pretty good deals on TurboTax. Often you’ll find it for around $79.96 vs. the retail price of $89.95. Usually early in the season they also include extra coupon codes in their in-home mailers to customers so keep any eye out for these offers. Prices may vary per store and per state.

FAQ’s

Where do you enter a coupon code for TurboTax at the Intuit Store?

Unlike most other sites, Intuit actually activates all of their coupons automatically when you follow partners discount link. You’ll see on all the above links, especially for the bank discounts, it will first take you to a landing page with the offer details and then take you back to a custom page on Turbotax.com. Just keep in mind that although the deals are automatic, they do expire if you do not complete your taxes by a certain date. So, there is no need to worry about entering any additional coupon codes at order checkout but just watch out for any expiration dates.

Is there a TurboTax upgrade or returning customer discount? How about an academic discount?

Intuit knows that they have you hooked after you use TurboTax once and do not offer any standing existing customer discounts. However, all of the offers currently available apply to both new and existing customers so be sure you take advantage of one of them as you should be able to save at least 20% on your order.  Unfortunately, we have never seen any student discounts available on TurboTax products.

When will TurboTax Premier 2012/2013 be released?

All the TurboTax products become available for pre-ordering in early November from most of the major resellers, and then arrive on the Intuit site in mid-December. Keep your eyes open for the early-bird discounts offered in the first few weeks of the tax season.
